This page explains how Prentiss Scholey Speed Test handles information when you use our speed test tools and read our guides. It is a plain record of what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It is not marketing copy.

Last reviewed: 8 October 2026. This policy covers the site at prentissscholey.com and the speed test pages, results guides and reference chapters published on it. It does not cover third-party sites you reach by following a link away from here.

What we collect

A speed test needs very little from you to run. Most of what happens on this site stays on your device.

Test

Measurement data

When you run a speed test, the tool handles download speed, upload speed, latency, jitter and packet loss for that session. These readings describe the connection, not you. A test can be run without creating an account or giving a name.

Tech

Connection and device details

To pick a nearby test server and show useful results, the test reads the general region of your connection, the browser and operating system you are using, and the type of network you are on where the browser reports it. None of this identifies you by name.

Form

What you send us directly

If you write to us through the contact page, we receive the name, email address and message you choose to send. That is the only time we hold personal details you typed yourself, and it is used to answer your question.

Site

Pages and preferences

We keep basic records of which guide pages are opened so we know which explanations are worth keeping, and we store small preference files in your browser so the site behaves the same way on a return visit.

We do not ask for a mailing address, a payment card, or an account to run a speed test.

Why we collect it

Every item on the list above has a job. If an item stops being useful, we stop collecting it rather than keep it out of habit.

The purpose here is to help you understand a connection, not to build a profile of you as a person.

Run the test

Session readings and region data are what let the test choose a nearby server and report a result that reflects your actual connection instead of a distant one.

Read the result

Device and network details explain why a result looks the way it does, so the explanations on our results pages match the hardware and connection type you are actually using.

Answer you

Contact details you send are used to reply to your question about a reading, a guide, or troubleshooting a slow connection. Nothing more.

Keep the site working

Page records and preference files keep the guides loading quickly and let the site remember choices such as how a result is displayed, without asking again.

Where your data can travel

Four routes matter for a speed test site. Each one is drawn below in the same line language the rest of this site uses for connection state.

Direct to us

A message you send from the contact page goes to our mailbox and stays there for as long as it takes to answer you.

Test servers

A test contacts a server to measure throughput. The server sees the request it needs to answer and the readings it returns; it does not receive your name.

Site hosting

The host that serves these pages keeps routine access records, such as the time a page was requested, for security and to keep the site online.

Your browser

Small preference files live in your browser on your own device. You can clear them at any time from your browser settings.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information, and we do not rent visitor lists. Sharing is limited to the services that make the site and the speed test work, and to a small number of situations where the law requires it.

A test server outside our control only sees the measurement traffic it is asked to handle. A hosting provider only sees the requests it serves. Neither is given your contact details unless you chose to send them.

If the site is ever transferred to another operator, the records described here would move with it, and this page would be updated before that happened. We would also update this page if we ever began using an advertising or analytics provider that sets its own identifiers; today we describe only what the site does now.

In short

  • No sale of personal information to data brokers or marketers.
  • No account required to read a guide or run a test.
  • Disclosure to authorities only when we are legally required to respond.

How long we keep it

Different records have different lifetimes. Nothing here is kept indefinitely without a reason attached to it.

Messages you send us

Kept while we work on your question and for a reasonable period afterwards so a follow-up reply has the earlier context.

Until resolved

Server access records

Held by the hosting provider for a short operational window, then rotated out and discarded.

Short window

Browser preference files

Stored on your device, not on our servers. They stay until they expire or until you clear them yourself.

On your device

Test session readings

A result is shown to you as it is measured. Unless you write to us with a reading attached, the figures stay in your browser session.

Session only

Your choices

You do not need permission from us to reduce what the site holds about you. Most of these steps happen entirely in your own browser.

If a request involves records we hold, write to us and we will confirm what we have and act on it where the law allows.

Clear stored preferences

Your browser settings let you delete stored files for this site. The site will still load; you may simply be asked to make the same display choice again.

Run a test without identifying yourself

No sign-in is needed. If you would rather not share device details at all, a test run in a private browsing window returns the same measurement figures.

Ask what we hold

Write to us and ask. For most visitors the honest answer is a contact message and routine host records, and nothing else.

Ask us to correct or delete a message

If you sent a message and want it corrected or removed once your question is answered, say so in the same thread and we will do it where we are able to.
